Spiced Turkey Burgers

gemmalbarnes

A firm family favourite in our house! This is a really simple recipe and a great alternative to pork, beef or lamb.

Turkey is a good source of tryptophan, a precursor to the mood-regulating neurotransmitter serotonin and the sleep-inducing hormone, melatonin. Win-win!

Turkey often gets a reputation for being bland but the garlic, chilli, and other ingredients help elevate this into a tasty yet healthy, family-friendly dinner.

Serves 4 (making 2 burgers each)

500g turkey mince

2 eggs yolks, beaten

8 spring onions, finely chopped

2 mild red chillies, deseeded

4 cloves garlic, crushed

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp ground coriander

Freshly ground black pepper

Method

  1. Mix the turkey mince and the rest of the ingredients. If possible, leave this to sit in the fridge for at least an hour to marinate

  2. Shape into burgers (helps if your hands are slightly wet) and grill under medium heat for 10 minutes, then turn and grill for a further 7 minutes.

  3. Serve in wholegrain buns, with plenty of lettuce and tomato with sweet potato wedges
